VetCT Education

Over the last several years, online and distance learning have become an expectation and potentially a requirement for veterinary students. We have recognized the growing interest around online and asynchronous learning, which has been accelerated during the coronavirus pandemic.

Since September 2019, VetCT have been developing a set of online learning courses for Diagnostic Imaging that cover interpretation principles, interpretation paradigms, and case reviews. These are delivered in an interactive manner through our own Learning Management System which is designed to engage learners and create a durable learning experience.

VetCT Courses

We have created five separate courses: Small Animal Thorax, Small Animal Abdomen, Small Animal Musculoskeletal, Equine and Introduction to Alternate Imaging. Each course is designed around and mapped to robust learning objectives. A brief final quiz is provided at the end of each to test the learner and measure progress.

These courses can serve as a basis for preclinical learning in a stand-alone, supported fashion; as a springboard for further case-discussion; as a refresher prior to entry into clinical rotations; or as a supplement to existing curriculum. Prerequisite knowledge of radiographic anatomy and pathophysiology is expected for these courses, though we are eager to create additional courses around radiographic anatomy, radiation safety and positioning in the near future.

Small Animal Thorax

This course is designed to develop and hone skills in the interpretation of thoracic radiographs. Learners will review an interpretation paradigm that will ensure complete and systematic evaluation of thoracic radiographs. Further, learners will better understand the process through which findings can be related to pathophysiology and differential diagnoses via case examples and review.

Small Animal Abdomen

This course focuses on the application of standard interpretation principles in the evaluation and interpretation of abdominal radiographs. Students will learn to identify and characterize abnormalities using Roentgen signs, generate succinct and prioritized differentials, and create a list of action steps for further diagnostics and/or therapeutic interventions.

Small Animal Musculoskeletal

This course reviews the evaluation and interpretation of the small animal musculoskeletal system. Learners will review an interpretation paradigm and discuss common radiographic abnormalities of the small animal axial and appendicular skeleton.

Equine Radiology

In this course, students will review normal radiographic anatomy of the equine skull, spine, appendicular skeleton and thorax as well as common pathophysiology associated with equine lameness and thoracic disease.

Introduction to Ultrasound, Computed Tomography and Magnetic Resonance Imaging

Computed Tomography and Magnetic Resonance Imaging: Alternate imaging is playing an ever increasing role in the diagnosis and staging of disaease in veterinary medicine. In this course, a review of these modalities is provided, including: the common appearance of some organs, the availability of these modalities, selecting appropriate applications and costs.

What Our Clients Say

Alexander Briggs

Lincoln Memorial University

The VetCT radiology modules were an excellent learning experience. I appreciated that the course was self-paced, which allowed me to spend time on the topics that I needed to review more. Overall, the course was very comprehensive yet streamlined enough to not become monotonous. The multiple cases at the end of each module were a great way to reinforce the material and see real life examples of the disease processes discussed in the module. I definitely feel more confident in my imaging skills after taking this course and would highly recommend it to other students!
